Rugby Borough’s U13s kicked off their league campaign with an emphatic victory against visiting Cosby. The first few minutes belonged to Cosby though, before Marley settled things down with a well taken goal. It looked like being two not long after when a penalty was given for handball but Jasmine’s penalty was well saved by the Cosby keeper.

Jasmine made amends shortly after by drilling in a long shot from outside the area which gave the keeper no chance, Rugby 2-0. The girls continued to make and miss chances before Cosby got themselves back in the game with a break away goal. 2-1. Undeterred, the girls were once again causing the Cosby defence all sorts of problems and it was not long before Madi restored the two goal advantage making it 3-1 to Rugby and just before halftime Madi struck again with a brilliant header from Jasmine’s corner kick to make the half time score 4-1 to Rugby

The second half began much like the first with Rugby on top and it was not long before Jasmine made it 5-1 with another strike from outside the area. Marley went on a mazy run and finished to make it 6-1 but then Cosby started to come back into the game. Their pressure paid off when from their fifth consecutive corner Rugby could not clear their lines and the ball was poked past Erin to make it 6-2.

Back came Rugby though and Madi claimed her hat trick with a lovely finished goal for 7-2. The final goal of the game was superb and deservedly taken by Millie who beat three defenders to score and make it  8-2 at full time.

Overall a really good team performance with debutants Carly and Isla standing firm alongside Maya and Erin in defence. Also making their debuts were Skye and Zara who knitted into the team and on another day could have/should have been on the scoresheet themselves. The hard working midfield of Holly, Marley, Jas and Madi provided the perfect foil for Millie who worked her socks off all game. Well played girls and thank you to the parents for your wonderful help and support on match day. Thanks to Stacey and Amy for the pics
