Rugby Borough Girls U12 vs Groby Junior

9th May 2021

An early start for the U12 girls this week, who were allocated the main 4G pitch for their home game against the visitors, Groby Junior Vixens.

The team needed to be well prepared for the match as this was a 2nd vs 3rd placed league clash.

It was the visitors applying the early pressure and looking slightly stronger. The Groby team limited the Rugby girls to a few long range shots and both our defenders and Midfielders had to be on top form dealing with the attackers.

After another attack was defended well by the Rugby girls we gave away a corner. The corner was whipped in and Rugby switched off allowing Groby to get the touch and go 0-1 up.

Our girls didn’t let their heads drop and after a shot from Rosa, then a follow up from Tumi both of which were saved, we were awarded a corner. Sharon sent the ball into the penalty area and after some nice team work, Beth calmly scored the equaliser for the team to go in at half time with the scores deservedly level.

The second half kicked off in much the same vein, with chances for both teams at each end. Harriett memorably pulling off an amazing save preventing the team going behind. This was followed by a mad scramble in the Groby penalty box with numerous shots being well defended by the opposition. Lots of great ideas from Rugby, it was clear to see that both Sofia and Emme have grown so much in confidence and their bravery stood out as they took on some strong players and put in some great passes.

With both teams being very well matched the 1-1 score line was a fair result and we saw amazing performances from all the girls who are improving with each and every game. To top it off the current 1st league placed team drew 1-1 meaning there is still all to play for as we go into the final two games of the season.

Player of the game went to Hattie, for her constant battling and her resilient attitude against some much taller players.
