Rugby Borough U10 Pumas win final match in League Trophy group.

4th October 2020

Rugby Borough Pumas (8) vs Coventrians (1)

The final group match of the Coventry & Warwickshire Under 10 Trophy Event saw the Rugby Borough U10 Pumas face a tough Coventrians team at our home ground (Kilsby Lane). With both teams requiring a win to top the group and move into the semi-final, the Pumas had to be at their best.

In the early stages a goal from Kryspin Gos gave the Pumas a 1-0 lead, which was cancelled out shortly after by the opposition. The game flowed from end to end, with Austin Bishop and Felix James holding strong in defence in front of Fynn Lafferty in goal. The Pumas continued to fight for every ball with Beau McNeilage strong in the centre of midfield, and with some wonderful build up play between all 7 players, ending with James Olatunji (Captain) who scored to put the Pumas in front after a brilliant cross from James Catling. Then just before half time, Gos scored his second of the game to make it 3-1.

The Pumas started the second half as positive as the first. Substitutes Bradley Brookes and Tyler Moreton entered the field to play a vital role in the game, with Brookes impressing in defence and Moreton showing his footballing ability on the wing.

With five minutes gone in the second half, Olatunji scored his second, quickly followed by Gos who scored yet another wonderful hattrick. With the momentum behind them, the Pumas grew in confidence and began to press the opposition high and fast. The results soon came as both Bishop (1) and Moreton (2) scored their first goals of the season. The team stood strong despite the opposition playing with two more players, and came away overjoyed at having made it to the semi-finals. The Pumas march on.

Commenting on the success of the game, the coach, Stu Bishop said.

“The Pumas where fantastic today, giving it their all which showed on the pitch. The coaching team are proud of how every individual performed together as a team. They now head to the Semi Final full of confidence. Let’s hope we play like this next week and make it into the final”.
