Birstall United Juniors vs Rugby Borough Girls U12

25th April 2021

For the final away match of the this strange season, the RBWGFC U12 girls travelled up the M1 to play Birstall United Juniors on a sunny but slightly chilly Sunday morning.

Rugby Borough Girls U12

Although the sun was shining, the earlier start meant that there was a chill in the air but the girls quickly warmed up due to starting brightly and immediately attacking the home team with vigour.

It didn’t take long for the team to get into their stride and Rosa struck a hard shot which thundered onto the crossbar but didn’t go over the line before a great through ball from Ella reached Rosa but her strike was bravely saved by the Birstall goal keeper.

The Rugby Borough Defence & midfield were confidently dealing with the opposition attacks before laying onto the forwards who were getting closer and closer to scoring.

Our midfielders were constantly working hard and the forwards were making great attacking runs keeping the Birstall defence very busy which led to Rosa receiving the ball in the penalty area and she shot towards goal. The keeper spilled the shot and Rosa followed up by smashing the ball into the back of the net making it 0-1.

This didn’t stop the girls applying constant pressure and after some fine midfield play the ball found its way to the feet of Beth who scored an excellently taken goal which gave Rugby a well deserved two nil lead.

With the excellent defending from the defence and the constant attacking pressure from the midfield/forwards, Harriett in goal had very little to do goal keeping wise in the first Half. When she did get called into action Harriett looked sharp and alert to any danger.

Half-time score: Birstall United 0 – 2 Rugby Borough

In the second half the team kicked off with the same spirit as the girls continued to press and attack the Birstall goal. Any breakaway attacks made by the opposition were efficiently dealt with by our defenders.

After a glut of well taken corners, our captain for the day Sharon whipped in another great cross into the penalty box. Unfortunately for Birstall the ball came off one of their defending players and the ball sailed into the goal make it 0 – 3 to Rugby Borough.

Full-time result:

Birstall United Jnrs 0 – 3 Rugby Borough Girls U12

With only three home games to go this season, the girls are currently joint top of the league and we still have to face the team with the same points on the final match day of the season so all to play for.

The player of the match award deservedly went to Beth for her excellent movement and positioning for her goal.
