In the third of our ‘meet the team’ profiles, we introduce you to Kashifa – our super club Welfare Officer for the girls and women.
Kashifa first became acquainted with the club when her son joined an U7s team with the boys section a few years ago. Since then, they have become football mad and really become part of the Rugby Borough FC family. Her daughter, Amaani, finally became fed up with watching her brother play so much football and decided to have a go herself! She has now been playing for the past 3 seasons and is currently in the Rugby Borough Girls U14’s team who are enjoying top spot in the tough premier Leicester Girls Yellow League at the moment!
Kashifa’s husband, Junaid, is a coach for the U11s boys and also Head of Welfare for Rugby Borough FC. ‘I also wanted to be involved in my children’s favourite sport and volunteer with an organisation completely different from my day job as a Solicitor, so I joined the Committee as Welfare Officer for the girls.’
‘I understand how important this role is; we are all passionate about football and take the welfare and safety of our children seriously. It’s key that everyone in football feels comfortable, free and able to enjoy the game. That’s where I come in – to support a safe and fun environment for all. I enjoy being part of the Committee, it is a team effort and I work closely with the Committee members, coaches and managers in assisting the club in fulfilling its safeguarding responsibilities.’
‘We have fantastic facilities at Rugby Borough FC and I love that my daughter plays football here. It has been a really positive experience, it’s taught her to be strong, confident and most importantly that she is equal. I wish for other girls to have the same opportunity and encourage them to come down to Kilsby Lane and have a go!’
If anyone (staff, volunteers, parents or children) have any concerns or questions, please contact Kashifa on her email address or if you see that lovely smiling face around the club, don’t be shy, stop her for chat and say hi! Kashifa is probably the most approachable person at the club!
We appreciate your contribution to the club Kashifa, via the Welfare Office role. It has ensured we have robust procedures in place for all of the girls welfare. Additionally it has strengthened the role on the Committee with a standing agenda item meaning safeguarding and the welfare of the girls has the highest priority and the girls feel supported.
